Oil spikes — so why did only the Nasdaq hold up?

Today's Market

On the 8th (local time) the S&P 500 fell -0.3% and the Dow -1.1%, while the Nasdaq held up at +0.2%. An oil spike drove risk-off, and the indices split.

Oil surged +5.8%, pushing the 10-year Treasury yield up and reigniting inflation fears

Oil-and-yield pressure sent the Dow -1.1% and VIX +4.8% (16.90) as risk aversion widened

The Nasdaq stood alone on AI/chip tailwinds — next up: July 14 CPI and bank earnings
