Micron surges 6.8% even as the Nasdaq stumbles

Today's Market

On June 22, while the Nasdaq fell 1.3%, Micron and Intel jumped 6.8% and 5.2% respectively, powering the semiconductor sector up 2.4%.

BofA's forecast of no rate cuts through 2028 pushed short-term Treasury yields to their highest since February 2025, triggering growth-stock selling and pulling the S&P 500 down 0.4%.

Oracle's disclosure of roughly 20,000 layoffs sent its shares down 5.0%; the VIX climbed 5.4% as risk-off sentiment broadened.

Micron's quarterly earnings and new home sales on the 24th, then PCE and GDP on the 25th, will serve as the near-term directional tests.

Micron climbs 6.8% on AI memory deal 📈

Micron (MU) surged 6.8% on news of an AI memory supply deal with Anthropic — a sharp move against the market's direction.

Bernstein raised price targets across memory names to reflect rising HBM prices, extending the gains.

Despite higher rates, surging AI demand lifted earnings estimates and offset discount-rate pressure — Wall Street read it as a real-demand re-rating confirmed by the Anthropic deal.

Tomorrow's earnings (June 24; consensus EPS $20.05) disclose HBM supply volumes and the Anthropic contract's scale — the first test of whether the rally holds.

Microsoft pulls a healthcare CRO into its orbit

Global clinical-trials firm ICON named Microsoft its preferred AI and cloud partner.

 ICON's pick strengthens Microsoft's healthcare AI-cloud position.

Enterprise AI deal flow also stays solid.
